We had been planning for a week or so to attend the One Life for LA march but by Thursday hubby wasn't feeling well. He thought he was getting some kind of head cold and definitely not up to wrangling six children outside on a long walk. Friday came and he wasn't feeling much better so by late Friday night we decided we weren't going to go, much to my disappointment. Saturday morning hubby said he was feeling a bit better but still didn't think he was up to the task for such a long day. When my son Aidan aged 6 heard the news he was so disappointed and sad. He desired with all of his little heart to go on a march to show that he didn't approve of mommies killing their babies. So Gabe and I looked at each other and we decided we could pull it off. We rushed around getting the kids ready, packed a picnic lunch, and left with a few minutes to spare! It was definitely miraculous.

On the drive up we talked to the children some more about abortion and euthanasia and where we stand on these matters and why we march. It was all very good conversation and I'm so excited to be able to form our little army of soldiers for Christ.
When we arrived at the march starting point the first speeches had already begun. There were so many people, and so many wonderful signs to choose from. The archbishop gave a speech and then everyone lined up to begin marching. As I was reading the different signs to the boys I had to choke back tears a few times. The whole thing was very emotional for me, being a mother. It was so inspiring seeing so many people standing up for the unborn and all life from conception to natural death.
The march took about a good half hour of walking through downtown LA. We marched and prayed the rosary with the other groups close by and it was so great! We slowed down traffic on the freeway as we marched across. The police escort and Knights of Columbus were at each intersection guiding the crowd. And for the 15,000 people there, there were only four protesters that were walking alongside the crowd yelling their pro-abortion slogans.
It was quite hot walking in the sun and we were all tired and thirsty by the end of the walk. Next time I need to remember more water, hats, and sunscreen! Hats, sunscreen, hot? In January? This is SoCal remember. :) We ended up at park in the middle of downtown LA and while eating our picnic lunch we listened to the wonderful line up of speakers and musicians.
The children were getting tired and the sun was hot so we packed up and headed out before the program was over but we definitely enjoyed the experience and can't wait for next year!
ONE LIFE LA!
