We finished up week two of school this week and so far so good. CHC is SO much more laid back than Seton and so much less work. I think it's going to work out very well this year because we will have so much going on. However, given that it is so laid back, I did order the Alpha Year of Classically Catholic Memory to incorporate too. We started it this week and I LOVE it! Maybe next year we will be able to do it in a co-op setting which would be oh so fun. To find out more about this awesome program, go visit their site here.
One thing I realized is that my boys seem to be behind in phonics and reading. The readers that Elias got for 2nd grade are a little too advanced for his reading level. Aidan isn't up to par either so I decided just to continue on with the Little Angel Readers series that we were working through over the summer. I'm sure they'll be caught up by the end of the year. Phonics/reading is something that develops over time but once it's learned, you never forget it. That being said, I'm not going to worry about it.
Juliette & Connor make Blueberry Banana Bread for "B" week
Kieran is doing the CHC preschool material as well as the beginning Explode the Code books. I'm also using this cute preschool program, Twenty-Six Letters to Heaven for he and Juliette which is working out really well.
What else? Oh! We went to Crescent Beach last Sunday after Mass with a few families and everyone had a great time. It was so hot out, but felt great by the beach with the breeze and a cooling dip in the ocean now and then. The boys had a blast.
We have been doing a lot of pool hopping this summer; swimming at friend's apartment pools and such. Elias & Aidan are getting to be such good swimmers. The other three are fine in the water with their floaties. It's nice to be hands free in the pool and take turns swimming and playing with each child.
I've been teaching Elias to play chess and it's his new favorite game. He's been wanting to play everyday. Here are a couple pictures of him showing Kieran how to play.
It's been so nice having Gabe around the past couple weeks to share in the work & parenting load. We are still praying about our future and I may have some news to share in the next week or two. Please continue to keep us in prayer.
Last Sunday at Mass I tried wearing Xavier in the moby wrap while I played and sang. It worked out really well and he slept through it. Yay for baby wearing!
Last night hubby and I went on a un-picture-documented date after the children were in bed. Our neighbor came over to sit while we went out to get dinner. It was so weird to be eating at 9pm and it was a quick date since we have both been so tired and definitely not used to socializing that late at night. Lol.
Today Gabe has been gone all day at a Catholic Men's Conference in Jacksonville. He left before it was light out this morning and I don't expect him back until the children are in bed later tonight. Thanks be to God today has gone very smoothly for me with all the children. Connor even pooped on the toilet so one less poppy diaper to change! He is totally ready to be potty trained and I think we'll start with that in September. Even though it is a Saturday, I did a full day of school with the children because we are going to be spending four days in Orlando at Disneyworld this coming week. Yay for homeschooling! We want to get in at least one more trip before our passes expire, and it will be a little early birthday celebration for Elias.
So since I've been off the Whole 30 and eating some dairy and wheat again I really haven't felt all that great. Yes, I've really enjoyed my coffee and heavy cream, but I'm really just dragging and have had a constant slight upset stomach. That being said, I think I'm going to start up another Whole 30 either this Monday or the following Monday. Having dieting and exercise goals this past month has really helped to keep me grounded with all the stress of the job search and the future unknowns so I think I'm going to keep it up.
Last but not least there has been an overload of cuteness in the Xavier department. I can't get enough of my sweet baby. He's 11 weeks today, can you believe it? I just want to eat him!
I am freaking out just a bit because birthday season is here and the next three birthdays only have two weeks between them! So much to think about and plan! Ahhhh! OK, well I think that's about it. I better get off here and feed my offspring dinner before they get any more crazy! Have a wonderful Sunday!
