Camping at Gamble Rogers Memorial State Park

This past Sunday-Tuesday we drove to Flagler beach (about 35 miles south of St. Augustine) to go camping.  We were the only tent there (there were 35 campsites) and the only family with children.  Most were serious older couples with RVs.   The campground wasn't very private because it was right on a dune of the beach so there weren't any trees or shade.  Just shrubs between the campsites.  There was a constant breeze which was nice and it cooled down enough at night for us to use our sleeping bags.  The one bad thing about the campground, is that it is right near the highway, so early in the morning the trucks and motorcycles start roaring by.  Other than that, we would definitely camp there again.  It was clean and right on the beach which was delightful.  Sadly, there was a fire warning in effect so we were not able to have a campfire but we made due roasting some marshmallows over our camp stove and the boys didn't mind.

Also, we will definitely not go camping again during love bug season.  They were horrific!  When it was really windy, they weren't to much of a bother but when the wind died down, they were just everywhere and getting into everything!  We went out Sunday night and purchased a screen tent to go over our picnic table which helped a great deal.  Other than the lovebugs though, we had a great time.
