Quick Takes Friday

I have been wanting to blog for forever but it just hasn't happened until now.  Everything has been falling into place lately.  We have sorted a lot of things out this past week which has been fabulous!

#1.
I finally decided what to do for homeschool this fall!  I enrolled Elias & Aidan in Seton for 1st grade and kindergarten   It has been weighing on my mind for quite a few months now and it's SO nice not to be thinking about it or worrying anymore.  I think having the lesson plans will really help me out.  I just got an email that the books are on their way and I'm super excited.  I haven't decided when exactly we will start....probably late summer.  For Kieran I am going to use my Little Saints preschool program.  So far this "summer" (I know it's not technically summer yet) Elias is half way through Little Angel Readers book A and Aidan is working on Go For the Code Book C.  Kieran has been doing a few Kumon books.

I have been having tooth troubles again.  :/  Another piece of my baby tooth is starting to come off.  I finally set up an appointment for an extraction in early June.  The whole process of getting an implant is going to be expensive and take a few months but hopefully we will get it all worked out.  I keep telling Gabe I don't want to look like a toothless old hag.  It's my bottom right first molar so it will definitely show when I smile.  Maybe I should start practicing smiling with my mouth closed......

Monday morning bright and early I set off with all the kids for KY with some friends!  We are super excited!  And what makes it even more exciting is that I booked my hubby a plane ticket to KY for Memorial Day weekend!!!  Whoo-hoo!  Then he'll be able to drive back with us which will be very nice.  I'm definitely up for an adventure which I'm sure this trip will be.  :)

Hubby had a great meeting yesterday with his adviser and another professor.  They made a game plan of what needs to be accomplished before starting on his final thesis.  Yay!  So exciting!  The end is finally in sight.  :)  He feels better now that he knows exactly what to be working on and what his recent experiments have been showing.

I'm super excited about my haircut this evening.  I haven't had one in over a year and my hair is getting too long and straggly.  I want to keep it on the long side but also get some layers.  The girl I normally go to switched salons and thankfully I was able to find out where she is working and set up an appointment.

Juliette has been behaving so much better in church.  We haven't had to take kids out during mass for the past couple Sundays.  It has been SO nice!  I'm sure it won't be long now though until we have to start taking Connor out.

So, we are starting to try and eat more healthy in the Dilanji house.  Last week we finished up all the cereal, bread and snacks.  The children have been eating oatmeal or eggs for breakfast every morning.  I am going to start making my own bread.  I actually attempted it this week but forgot to turn down the temperature when I was baking it so it came out a bit tough.  However, it is still edible and the children have been eating it for lunch and are enjoying it.  It was made with my freshly ground whole wheat four.  When we get back from KY I'm going to try again and I hope to find a recipe that works well and tastes great too.  We are going to cut way back on our carb and sugar intake and start eating fruits, veggies and nuts for snacks.  I'm hoping to start on the Paleo diet in June after our vacation.

#8.

Last week I started a cycling class at the gym.  It's at 6:15 in the morning Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Boy is it a workout!  Sadly I'll be out of town for the next three classes but hopefully I'll be able to jump right back in once we get back.  I would have preferred a total body workout class but there were none available at a good time.  :/  Maybe next semester.

Connor is going to be crawling any day now!  He gets up on all fours and rocks back and forth.  He scoots himself around to where he wants to be.  He is my adorable, happy baby.  :)  I can't believe he's already 6 1/2 months old!

Hubby and I were able to go out on a date last night thanks to one of the guys from Gabe's KOC council.  We went out to a small German place for some cider & beer and sausage & meatballs.  It was delicious.  Dessert was a pazookie from BJs.  It was nice to get out and just be alone - the two of us.  Speaking of the two of us, our anniversary is coming up in about two weeks.  I need to get Gabe a gift and we may try to have a nice candlelit dinner at home.

#11.

We signed up Elias & Aidan for a summer archery program that starts in June.  They are super excited and can't wait to begin.  It's a six week course.  A couple of the past Sundays they have gone with Gabe to the family fun shoot day and have had a blast.  I'm looking forward to getting over there one of these Sundays to watch them shoot.  Gabe really enjoys it too.

Before I leave I want to say Congrats to my sister Catherine on her graduation!  She is graduating with a degree is harp performance.  Her senior harp recital is tomorrow in Portland.  Catherine, I just want to let you know that I'm sorry I can't be there but I love you and am so proud of you!  I will be thinking about you and praying everything goes well!

Ok, so that's what has been going with the Dilanjis.  I hope to do some blog posts on the kids soon and what they are learning and doing these days.  Don't forget to go see Jen for more Quick Takes.
