Beginning of summer recap Part 1

I've been itching to update the blog but just haven't found the right time or mood to do it!  This Saturday afternoon we are relaxing inside, still trying to recover from sickness which has stuck us at home for the last two weeks!  :(

The beginning of our summer started with our trip up to KY on May 20th to visit our dear friends.  It had been almost a year since they moved away and it was so nice to reconnect; just like old times.  I caravaned up with another friend and her children.  We spent the entire day driving with few stops.  The children were pretty well behaved and I had just told my Mom what a breeze the trip had been.   Shortly after crossing the KY border, and after I had decided to speed ahead and leave my friend behind, Elias started saying his throat hurt.  We stopped at the KY rest welcome area and as soon as I turned off the engine, he got sick in the car.  :/  Poor little guy was car sick.  He got sick a few more times after I got him out and I spent 20 minutes cleaning up the mess and getting everyone situated again.  We then hit the road with only two more hours to our destination.  Elias did really well with getting sick in his grocery sack and then finally fell asleep.  We arrived around 8:30PM - 13 1/2 hours of being on the road!  It was so nice to get out and stretch.  The kids all had fun playing together and Nick even watched all of them one morning so Lorrie & I could get pedicures and go out to lunch.

Here are a few pictures from our trip.

We stopped at a park for lunch on our drive up.

Fun at the park.  The grass is so nice and green and bushy and   NO fireants!

On Thursday evening Gabe flew up to spend the weekend and drive home with me which was really nice.  Friday morning we went to a local bakery for a little tour which was really neat and the kids enjoyed it.

These two were so funny together

Saturday on our way to Louisville, we stopped at the Keenland race track for a little tour around.

And then we headed over to the falls of the Ohio right over the Indiana border to see some fossils.

Then back over to KY to the new walking bridge in Louisville.  You can walk across the bridge to Indiana!  We met up with some of the Kenney's relatives whom we had met previously in FL for the walk and dinner.

On Saturday night we stayed at Nick's brother's house in the basement.  Sunday morning we attended Mass at a beautiful old church and then relaxed until late afternoon.  We headed over to the Kenney family house for a graduation party.  Nick has 9 brothers and sisters and his parents have about the same number of siblings so the party was HUGE!  It was overwhelming to say the least but everyone was very friendly and welcoming.  ;)  After a few hours, we headed back to Lexington for the night.  Monday was Memorial day and we went to the Lexington Arboretum and back to the Kenney house for a BBQ.

Monday night we said our goodbyes and got a couple hours of sleep before leaving Lexington between 3:30 and 4 to head back to Gainesville.  We had an uneventful drive back praise the Lord!  Thank you Kenney family for hosting us and for the wonderful memories!  We can't wait for our next visit.  :)
